Trainer Mark Kavanagh will aim his talented Starcraft filly Celebrity Girl at the Group 1 Thousand Guineas at Caulfield Racecourse on October 12, 2011.
The three-year-old, who cost $500,000 at the 2010 Australian Easter Yearling Sale, remains unbeaten after two starts.
“She is pretty much above average and I’m very pleased with that,” Kavanagh said.
“At this stage you sort of think that (the Thousand Guineas) might be a little brave because she is little bit brilliant but she does settle well.”
Kavanagh knew he had to purchase Celebrity Girl when he saw her at the 2010 Sales.
“She was a pretty good sort,” Kavanagh said.
“She had a massive girth and a really nice walk and just had style written all over her.
“We thought she would run and I reckon $800,000 would be cheap for her right now.
“It is the right time of the year to have a filly like this and she has always shown us plenty.”
Celebrity Girl won her last start in the Listed Cap D’Antibes Stakes at Flemington on September 3.
“She went to sleep today and then clicked up,” he said after the race.
Jockey Mark Rodd believes Celebrity Girl is capable of winning the 2011 Thousand Guineas, but needs to mature slightly.
“Physically she’s there but mentally she has to switch on a bit,” he said.
“She’s still having a good look around and doesn’t know how to let down properly.”
