Trainer Robert Smerdon is confident that his three-year-old filly Mosheen can win the $500,000 Thousand Guineas at Caulfield Racecourse next Wednesday October 12, 2011.
The Fastnet Rock filly won her last start in the Group 2 Edward Manifold Stakes at Flemington on Sunday.
Atlantic Jewel currently remains unbeaten from three career starts.
”There is an old saying in racing – ‘you never miss a race just because of one horse’ – but Atlantic Jewel is some horse,” Smerdon said.
Mosheen’s regular jockey Danny Nikolic made it clear that he “wouldn’t swap” his horse for Atlantic Jewel under any circumstances in the Thousand Guineas 2011.
“Every time I ride her she gives me 110 percent,” Nikolic said.
”She will be strong at the trip and I think she is a good ride going forward toward the Oaks.
“I wouldn’t be shying away from one horse.
”I’d say we are going to test Kav’s (Mark Kavanagh) horse, don’t worry about that.”
Mosheen was given blinkers for her last race in the Edward Manifold Stakes.
”Blinkers did make her as a two-year-old’,” Smerdon said.
”She had never shown in work that she needed them and I took them off her, but Danny (Nikolic) said after her last start that we needed them back.
”I succumbed and it was the right call.”
