Thousand Guineas 2012 – Late Betting Update

October 17th, 2012

With the late scratching of Dazzler in the 2012 Thousand Guineas today, the betting markets have shifted marginally.

Molto Bene is still favourite to win the 2012 Thousand Guineas and has firmed into odds of $4 at

The three-year-old has won two of her four race starts and has earned close to $100,000 in prize money.

With Maybe Discreet and Love For Ransom are second favourites, Commanding Jewel is still offering great value at $9.

The Commands filly has won two of her four race starts and has earned more than $100,000 in prize money.

Commanding Jewel is yet to win a Group race, finishing second by a nose in the Group 3 Thousand Guineas Prelude at Caulfield on September 22.

The talented filly then went on to place a close third in the Group 2 Edward Manifold Stakes last start.

Commanding Jewel is trained at Kyneton by Leon Corstens and will be ridden by jockey Damien Oliver in today’s 2012 Thousand Guineas.

Corstens feels Oliver is the best jockey to guide Commanding Jewel to a possible 2012 Thousand Guineas win, despite allegations of a betting scandal that currently surrounds the rider.

“He knows the filly very, very well and I think he’s ridden under more adverse conditions than this,” Corstens said.

“I never had second thoughts. Even if the owners hadn’t agreed, I would have still advised them to leave him on.

“I think I’m getting him at the right time.

“I reckon he’ll be busting his boiler to try and win for us.”

With the scratching of Dazzler, both emergencies have secured themselves a start in the $1 million race.

Meditrina and Excitus, despite their inclusion in the 2012 Thousand Guineas field, are still the least backed runners in the market and are paying odds of $201 at
