Trainer John O’Shea has accepted for the Group 1 Thousand Guineas with Gypsy Diamond and Bound For Earth, however, has accepted that Guelph will be near impossible to beat tomorrow October 16, 2013.
O’Shea is not confident that his duo, or any other horse in the field for that matter, is capable of upsetting 2013 Thousand Guineas favourite Guelph.
“She is an outstanding filly, Guelph. The best we have seen for a while,” O’Shea said.
“Look, my fillies are both going in in great condition, I would like to see Bound For Earth’s coat drop but we have been waiting for that all spring.
“Gypsy Diamond has been set for one race, the Oaks, and this run is a fork in the road for her but I expect her to run well.
“My pair would have to be at their very best to win but I’m sure they will be in the money somewhere.”
Bound For Earth is the only horse to have beaten Guelph this spring, winning the Group 2 Furious Stakes first-up.
“She is obviously a very talented filly, to have beaten Guelph tells you she is up to a race like this,” O’Shea said.
Bound For Earth has gone on to post two gallant third placings in the Group 2 Tea Rose Stakes and Group 1 Flight Stakes behind Guelph.
Gypsy Diamond placed seventh in the Listed Reginald Allen Quality last run and will be out to turn her spring form around in the 2013 Thousand Guineas.
”It is a test for her, especially going the Melbourne way for the first time, but if she is up to it, the Wakeful and Oaks are there,” the trainer said.
