Inner City Girl has appeared on course only once competitively, however the performance for a resounding success in Monday’s Melbourne Cup Day @ Echuca Maiden (1000m) has filled the Mornington-based trained with plenty of confidence.

Understandably thrilled with the debut performance, Riley told Racing Victoria the daughter of Magnus displays talent and composure beyond her years and he is confident she is up to the grade of a race like the 2015 Thousand Guineas.

“We’ve got bigger plans in store for her than this race today,” Riley said.

“I think the form out of the race will be pretty strong and I think she’s a very good filly.”

Jockey Steve Baster took the ride on Inner City Girl in her debut appearance at Echuca on Monday and echoed Riley’s sentiments the filly is a genuine black type contender, this season amongst her own age group.

“She began pretty well but couldn’t muster any early speed but to her credit she travelled nicely and bullocked her way through and all I needed was a bit of luck and she hit the line hard,” Baster said.

“I don’t think there were too many in this race that didn’t think they could win, quite a few of them looked impressive in their trials so it will probably turn out a strong form race.”

Taking out a strong Cranbourne barrier trial prior to her competitive debut on August 10th, Inner City Girl jumped from the gates well at Echuca on Monday, but was immediately settled off the pace of the race’s early leaders.

Steadily pressing forward upon rounding onto the final straight, the filly out of Coniston Gem mustered an impressive final straight sprint to hit the line comfortably in the clear of a talented field.
