109 three-year-old fillies remain in contention for the 2015 Group 1 Thousand Guineas (1600m) at Caulfield Racecourse on October 10th following the release of first acceptances for the race this afternoon.
Speak Fondly will be the sole filly contesting this weekend’s Group 1 Golden Rose (1400m) at Rosehill Gardens, and will likely progress to an appearance in the 2015 Thousand Guineas (1600m) should her form warrant a berth.
Speak Fondly has more than stamped herself as a filly to follow; claiming three wins and two minors through only six competitive starts since debuting in October last year.
Running second in the Group 2 Sweet Embrace Stakes (1200m) and winning the Group 2 Magic Night Stakes (1200m) before failing to fire in the Group 1 Golden Slipper (1200m), Speak Fondly is yet to taste anything but success this season – winning each of the Group 2 Silver Shadow Stakes (1200m) and Group 2 Furious Stakes (1200m).
Pasadena Girl is a Group 1 winner over the distance and will target the 2015 Thousand Guineas this time in.
Winning each of the Listed Talindert Stakes (1100m) and Group 3 Thoroughbred Breeders Stakes (1200m) upon debuting this year, the Savabeel filly ran on for fourth in the Group 1 ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m) before charging home to win the Group 1 Champagne Stakes (1600m) on April 18th.
Having returned this time for second in the Listed Atlantic Jewel Stakes (1200m) over the weekend, Pasadena Girl is sure to find the 2015 Thousand Guineas in peak condition.
Stay With Me stamped her claims as a serious black type contender in taking out the Atlantic Jewel Stakes and has been included in 2015 Thousand Guineas first acceptances.
Running second in the Listed Talindert Stakes (1100m) on debut before finishing a credible fifth in the Group 2 Reisling Stakes, Stay With Me returned this time for success in a 3.y.o Maiden Plate (1200m) at Pakenham in her only other start prior to the Atlantic Jewel Stakes.
2015 Thousand Guineas first acceptances have drawn fillies from all over the country, including Brisbane-based Saga Of The Storm and South Australian The Grey Flash.
Running well in a pair of minor sprints on debut, Saga Of The Storm is yet to find peak condition this time but will relish a continued step-up to 1600m.
The Grey Flash quickly found great condition through the Autumn Carnival this year; running fifth in a Morphettville minor over 1200m first-up before placing second in the Group 3 Campolina Stud Stakes (1200m) and winning the Group 3 SA Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m).
