Short Turnaround No Issue for Badawiya in 2015 Thousand Guineas

October 8th, 2015

Badawiya produced a monumental turn of foot to take out the Group 2 Edward Manifold Stakes (1600m) on Sunday, but trainer Mick Price has absolutely no doubt the talented filly will not face any issues in backing up in Saturday’s Group 1 Thousand Guineas (1600m) at Caulfield.

Jumping from the gates well, jockey Damien Oliver elected to settle Badawiya within the talented and capacity field of 16 in the Edward Manifold Stakes; receiving an ideal run in transit before the filly mustered a monumental turn of foot in the final straight to hit the line two lengths in the clear of closest rival Sacred Eye.

Having been allocated barrier ten of eleven for the 2015 Thousand Guineas, Price Racing Ahead he is sure the filly will not get as easy a run in transit this weekend, but is confident her experience over the mile will pay dividends.

“I thought that it was really good,” Price said.

“She has come into a different level of work and racing from where she started.

“The Edward Manifold Stakes win was really good and the last furlong was the best part of it.

“She has drawn 11 here and I am assuming that she is going to have to come across with Miss Gunpowder.

“That is going to use a bit more fuel than the beautiful run she had at Flemington and she has to cop with the back-up, so she has a couple of things to contend with.

“She is well in herself and she doesn’t appear to be affected physically and she is a filly that is bouncing off last Sunday.

“She looks great and we will give her a chance in a Group 1.”

Badawiya has finished outside the first three only once in six career starts so far; posting three wins and two minors since first debuting on course for third in a Ballarat minor over 1000m in January.

Craig Newitt has been confirmed to take the ride on Badawiya in the 2015 Thousand Guineas, who will carry a very manageable 55.5kgs. is currently offering the best 2015 Thousand Guineas odds, for which Badawiya represents excellent value at a quote of $6 for success.
