Trainer Robbie Laing could not be more pleased with the benefit taken by Missrock, in the lead-up to a Spring Carnival campaign that will be geared towards the Group 1 Thousand Guineas (1600m) in October.
Missrock has only made four competitive appearances at the races so far, but has more than stamped herself as a serious racing prospect in posting two wins at black type level, including the Group 3 Percy Sykes Stakes (1200m) on Day 2 of The Championships.
Missrock has reportedly improved tenfold since the Autumn Carnival, and Laing believes she will prove extremely tough to beat through her spring targets, including the Thousand Guineas 2016.
“She’s a star,” Laing said.
“Whatever she did in the autumn, she is lengths better.
“She went into that run (Percy Sykes Stakes at Randwick) just months after fracturing her pelvis and she had a lot of wasted muscle over her hindquarters and now she’s built up again nearly back to normal,” he said.
“She’s nearly 16.2 (hands). She’s a whopping, big filly and she just seems to have improved so much it will take a good filly to beat her this time in.”
Trialling well in the lead-up to her competitive debut, Missrock immediately stamped herself as a filly to follow with a dominant performance for a comfortable win in the Listed Debutant Stakes (1000m) on October 10th.
Running on for a credible third in the Group 3 Emirates Airline Plate (1000m) at Flemington on Melbourne Cup Day, the Fastnet Rock filly was sent to the paddock after failing to make anything of an impact in the Listed Kingdom Stakes (1000m) at Sandown on November 14th.
Missrock only returned for the one run and success in the Percy Sykes Stakes in spring, but has already claimed close to $400,000 in prize money through only four career starts.
