2016 Thousand Guineas Field and Barrier Draw

October 4th, 2016

Fifteen fillies have been confirmed in the final field for Saturday’s 2016 Group 1 Thousand Guineas (1600m) at Caulfield Racecourse; highlighted by the inclusion of some of the Spring Carnival’s most exciting runners.

Global Glamour produced a slick effort to win the Group 1 Flight Stakes (1600m) in Sydney last weekend and has been confirmed in the 2016 Thousand Guineas field.

Trainers Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott have had a big wrap on Global Glamour throughout her entire racing career so far, and the filly returned to racing for third in the Group 2 Furious Stakes (1200m) on September 3rd.

Luckless in running before finishing sixth in the Group 2 Light Fingers Stakes (1400m) on September 17th, the Star Witness filly led from the outset in the Flight Stakes last weekend and proved too strong; hitting the line half a length ahead of Yankee Rose.

Kerrin McEvoy will take the ride on Global Glamour, who should receive a good run to the lead from barrier 8 in the Thousand Guineas.

Foxplay has experienced something of a meteoric rise to prominence this time in, and the filly will jump from the ideal barrier 5 in the Thousand Guineas with the notable advantage of Hugh Bowman in the saddle.

Returning to the paddock after finishing second in a Rosehill minor over 1400m in early July, Foxplay resumed this time for a near-two length win in the Furious Stakes on September 3rd.

Having repeated the dose in the Light Fingers Stakes last time out, the Foxwedge filly appears as though she will relish a step up to a mile and will be tough to beat in the Thousand Guineas.

Henry Dwyer has a big opinion of Leotie, but the filly is sure to require luck in transit after drawing into the 2016 Thousand Guineas field in barrier 14.

Leotie returned from a spell for a maiden win in the Ladbrokes Bet Better Plate (1106m) on July 21st, before running a close second in the Group 3 Quezette Stakes (1100m) on August 13th.

Having since taken out each of the Wedrive.com.au BM78 (1400m) and The Wellington @ Botanical BM78 (1400m), Leotie will be partnered by in-form hoop Chris Parnham.

Harlow Gold is one of two runners for Lindsay Park in the Thousand Guineas field and will leave from barrier 1, while the Leon & Troy Corstens-trained Fromparis Withlove has been charged with overcoming the outside draw.
